I love @TheAtlantic. But it made a mistake publishing that nurse piece. It was badly argued, comparing apples to skydiving without a parachute. It was an argument driven by pure annoyance rather than data or logic. It wasn’t an essay that worked on it’s own terms, I thought.
As a freelancer it always upsets me to criticize an outlet. It feels risky. But this piece is doing active harm, making a difficult conversation about opening schools worse, rather than better.
And being a parent - a stressed unhappy parent who desperately wants kids back in school but doesn’t want kids, teachers, or parents, or anyone, to be needlessly harmed - feels more important than being a freelancer right now.
I hope @JeffreyGoldberg will hear and think about the criticism and the way this essay harms rather than clarifies one of the most difficult issues of the moment.
