— [♫] a few theories i have about some 5SOS’s songs; a thread
- first of all: when i talk about the protagonist is not necessarily about luke, ashton, calum or michael neither about their girlfriends.
— permanent vacation:
- this part probably criticizes the 9 to 5 work schedule, also, about the protagonist having panic attacks/anxiety attacks, it repeats until the chorus.

(ps: michael singing this part says a lot, ‘cause of his panic attacks)
- these verses are important, the first two give off the ideia that the protagonist knows he needs help but they’re too proud to admit it.
the last three, invite the listener to join the new broken scene (how the band calls the new generation in the whole album)
- these verses might mean the power that the media has to control the masses, also, calum sings “we’re all so proud”, which gives strength to the previous theory.
the last verses talk about how the system is failured and how the people are seen meaningless, “just another number”
- the bridge clearly talks about the media and how it’s literally all the same, despite the channel or plataform. it’s not only talking about the music itself, but the whole media industry does not transmit anything truly original

- the end.
— the girl who cried a wolf:
- this first part might talk about all the times she wanted to end the relationship, maybe because of her past traumas or mental issues. but truly, she doesn’t want the protagonist to leave, ‘cause then she’ll be all alone.
the “ignored by gravity” part may mean that all her+
life she was ignored by everyone that even the gravity does ignore her. BUT i think it’s more likely to be that she’s drifting away from everything and everyone, living in her own space.
- the girl says she wants to runaway to her great scape, her safe place, but then the protagonist ask her if she really wants to do it. she is confused about what she wants to do and what she is feeling. then, in the last verses we see that the girl keeps running away from him.
- it is known that the eyes always tell us the truth, that they are the window to the soul. so when he says he wants her to look deep into his eyes, he wants to know what is happening to her, he wants her to trust him, ‘cause he will be there for her.
- he says that what she’s going through doesn’t have to be a tragedy, doesn’t have to be so hard. he wants her to reach out to him and tell him what is happening, ‘cause he’ll help her no matter what.
- in this last part he sounds desperate. he is worried sick about the girl he loves, he wants to help her. but first she needs to open up to him, she needs to stop pushing him out of her life.

- the end.
- airplanes:
- in the first lines, the protagonist is afraid of coming out, being always silent about who he was. he was trying to find a way to say it, but then, when he felt ready, he was held back by >probably< the music industry. like when he says
“i made all mt plans, lost, never found”
- in the pre-chorus, the protagonist is in love with someone and describes their beauty and all. but then in the chorus, his daydream is mentioned, and in this dayd, he can truly be himself, with the person mentioned in the pre-chorus. he is standing tall, he is rising up like+
airplanes. and in the final verses he talks like he has to something to prove (in this theory, he has to show people that he is straight even though he isn’t). he has nothing to lose, as long as he doesn’t say the truth about his true self
- the protagonist spent most of his life wondering who he really was (his sexuality) and when he discovered, he was looking for a way to be sure, but not asking for help, he already knew who he was. and that’s why he says “i know it’s too late”, ‘cause+
nothing would change them now, and he would never come back to be the person he pretended to be.
- they (the music industry) couldn’t stop him from being who he was, but they could try to hide it, but soon it would come to life. and that’s why he sings the first verse.
the second verse he says his daydreams are his way to dealing with reality, and as mentioned earlier,+
in these daydreams, he could be himself, he feels alive. like he says in the last part.
- he doesn’t wanna wait to be himself, he already knew who he was. he is not sorry for being who he was (‘cause is not wrong). but after all, he wouldn’t let his hope fade away. he wants to know how this is gonna end.

- the end
— CALM:
- the theory starts with the fourth track, easier. in MY point of view, they’re having a affair, just starting to get to know each other, he knows she is trouble for him, but still he is dying for another taste. “we’re only built to fall”. he KNOWS it won’t work
- then in teeth, they start taking things more seriously, but he still has the same feeling he had on the previous track, and he still insists, ‘cause she really got him.
- in wildflower, they’re already having a thing, and this is about the good parts in the relationship, he is falling more and more in love with her.
- then in best years, he is deeply in love with her, he wants to be with her for eternity, he apologizes for his mistakes and never want to let her go.
- in not in the same way, his feeling may not be retributed the same way, ‘cause remember in teeth “sometimes when i look at you i see my wife, then you turn into somebody i don’t know”. the relationship starts to fall apart.
- in lover of mine, we feel this melancholic vibe, the relationship is falling more and more apart and he knows it. he feels guilty and he shows dependance on her in the whole song.
- then thin white lies comes up, he compare his relationship with drug addition (i’ll leve the whole explanation here in the comments). he knows he is dependable but he doesn’t know how to deal with it, so he turns to drugs as a coping mechanism
- in lonely heart, he is as dependable as ever, he feels thats she is slipping away and he is literally begging her to stay with him. they try to prentend like everything is okay but it’s not. deep down he knows she’ll leave him.
- in high, he is all alone, she left him and his vision of himself is very low, he asks her to think of him high. there’s two ways to interpret it, he wants her to think of him in a good way, and he wants her to think of him when she is literally high
- also, there are these two paralels

easier // high
- the end!! don’t forget these are all theories, it’s not proven to be truth
here’s the theory for thin white lies https://twitter.com/loversofmike/status/1290478311806660608
