Alright, how to stop bleeding (thread) https://twitter.com/Leila_MA/status/1290703374036488197
Your blood is one thing that really you don't want to lose too much of, forget this "imagine there's no possession" crap, when it comes to blood, unless you're donating, you need that clarety goodness INSIDE your blood vessels.
Most domestic cuts can probably be managed by simple first aid measures. Clean under a tap with soap, compress, dry, apply plaster. Demand your SO kiss better (no don't do that that's gross)
However, some other wounds need more immediate attention.

Prompt action to stop bleeding can save lives.
First of all, apply pressure. Press on the wound using a first aid dressing, or a clean towel, clothing. Elevate the wound above the level of the body if possible.
In case of severe bleeding, an emergency bandage (Israeli bandage) is a large bandage with a built in buckle to allow tightening and pressure

If you don't have one, you can improvise with a hard object over the dressing, wrapped round with bandage, over the wound. Call 112/999.
If your bleeding is bad enough to need this, you could also apply pressure to the artery supplying the area, at the elbow, the groin, or behind the knee.

Personally, I would not compress the carotid artery unless it's been severed.
In an injury to an extremity, if none of the above worked, you should apply a tourniquet. This can either be a professional one, or makeshift.

Any scarf, clothing, fabric, belt can be wrapped ABOVE the wound, tied and tightened with a hard stick/rod.
Make a note of the time you applied the tourniquet, keep the casualty warm, and get medical help to them as soon as possible.

Do not let them eat or drink because they may require surgery on arrival in hospital.
Early haemorrhage control, even if you're an untrained lay person, can save lives.

Call for help, stop the bleeding, and you might save a life.
