Why Eren Jaeger is a slave to his destiny?
1. The moment he kissed Historia's hands, Eren saw the future which lied ahead. You can see the events of next few years played before his eyes in a flash. The horror in his eyes evident as he saw the rumbling, the taking of founder & all his horrible actions.
2. In 131 we saw Eren acknowledging that fact multiple times. Eren is walking a path which was laid before him all this while. The theme of predestination is a big factor in his arc. At this point, Eren believes that everything was decided from the very beginning.
3. He wanted to change the future. He looked for other methods in the years before he invaded Marley but everything was futile. So, he slowly starts accepting the fact that he has no choice but to follow what he has already seen. Future cannot be changed.
4 This is why he is seen ardently apologizing to the fez kid here. He will take horrific actions as there is no other option. His situation is similar to bootstrap paradox. Eren took those actions bcz he saw it in the future. The future he saw was caused by the actions he took.
5.There is no origin of his actions. Those both are intertwined. This is the meaning of bootstrap paradox. Now coming to the main point. The most interesting panel to note in 131 was that of Ymir. She was in the outside world. Fez kid isn't an eldian so he couldn't have seen her+
6. Through paths! She was there standing unharmed in the midst of the chaos while Eren Jaeger was sleeping! This scene reminds me of Trost arc where Eren had no control over his actions. And Armin was the one who snapped him out of it.
7. This Chapter gave a huge possibility that Ymir is the one in actual control of the situation. Eren freed her but in doing so enslaved himself. Ymir was a character who was denied freedom for 2000 yrs! The one who urged for freedom the most deep down.
8. Attack titan embodies ymir's desire of freedom. It is why it kept moving forward all this while. And Eren Jaeger was the perfect vessel for it. Eren was actually able to reach her and free her like she always wanted. But Eren never had an idea that he was being used.
9. Eren is merely a slave following the path which he thought was the only way to free his people, but he had no idea it was Ymir's will. It was always her. Eren feels so much guilt and pain for it. Calls himself worse than Reiner. But he has no idea he was just a tool.
10. If this is true then he needs to be saved. Mikasa and Armin comes into play here. Eren is the biggest slave this way and this fits perfectly with the last panel 'You are free' with Grisha holding baby Eren. Maybe the world will reset without titans, and he is born free .
Isayama always has a twisted way to play with his characters. So, why not make the character who preaches about the freedom most & 'claims' he is free the biggest slave in the story? Eren's character really is very tragic in that regards. What do you think?
Some people are missing the point of this thread and it shows. Eren is fully aware of the actions he is taking. His path was pre-determined & he is unable to change that. But it's more of AT will then his. Eren is helpless & defeated. He has just succumbed to that fate now.
