This thread is devoted to Genndy Tartakovsky’s brilliant Star Wars: Clone Wars (CW) animated micro-series that appeared on Cartoon Network from 2003-2005. Not to be confused with Star Wars: The Clone Wars (TCW) 2008-2020. @starwars @TheCloneWars #StarWars /1

I love both animated series, but I have always thought the hand-drawn style of Tartakovsky’s CW was more visually appealing. I argue that Tartakovsky’s CW series needs to be recognized by @Disney as canon, w/ a few exceptions, and made available on @disneyplus. /2

Several Star Wars characters & concepts first appeared in CW including Asajj Ventress in the 2003 episode “Ch. 6” & General Grievous in the 2004 episode “Ch. 20.” Tartakovsky didn’t invent Grievous or Ventress, but his versions are visually superior & more frightening. /3

Tartakovsky's CW was made to connect AOTC & ROTS, but most events in CW precede events in TCW. In 2008’s TCW movie, Anakin is already a Jedi Knight & teams up with Ahsoka,his new apprentice. Lucas & Filoni were picking up in the timeline where Lucas & Tartakovsky left off. /4

In TCW Anakin no longer has his Padawan braid from AOTC. Tartakovsky’s CW famously includes Anakin becoming a Jedi Knight & has his braid chopped-off by Yoda’s lightsaber in the 2005 episode “Ch. 21.” The point is, many events in Tartakovsky’s CW happened before TCW began. /5

Chs. 1-21 of Tartakovsky’s CW happen roughly in 22 BBY, while TCW covers events up to 19 BBY. CW could still fit into canon up to “Ch. 22” & there are only 25 chapters total. TCW negates events in chs. 22-25 of CW, but Disney could include those chs. as non-canonical extras. /6

In the end, Tartakovsky’s CW gives an even more complete picture of the relationship between Anakin and Obi Wan, and their actions in the Clone Wars. Since it is not canon it is hard to find and watch CW. Disney should offer fans this series. /7

Finally, as a huge fan of Tartakovsky’s CW I was able to grab a piece of original production art with Obi Wan featured. I am getting it framed and it will be one of my treasured Star Wars items. /8
