Now that I’ve calmed down about what happened last night and my family totally ignoring why I was upset, lemme tell y’all about how I got stopped by the police last night.

I had just got out of Planet fitness around 9:57pm. I wanted a protein bar and a Naked Blue Machine, so I decided to go to Jewel Osco. They’re the only thing close to my house that is open after 10pm since the pandemic hit.
While going down 95th St in Oak Lawn, I noticed a car getting rapidly closer to me. The driver almost got in my lane and hit me, but missed and looked like it was going 80 mph. It was a Mercedes C300 and the it was FLYING! Mind you, the speed limit is 35, but do you boo boo.
As I turn left into the parking lot between Jewel Osco and Portillo’s, I notice an Oak Lawn police SUV behind me. I made sure not to do a rolling stop at the stop sign ahead, cuz folks are petty, and I don’t want no bullshit. All the sudden, the lights go off. I pull over.
When the officer got to my window, this man said, “Why on Earth were you going that fast??” Now I’m looking a dude confused AF cuz I know damn well I wasn’t speeding. In Oak Lawn, IL??? The same Oak Lawn, IL where you can get stopped for doing 33 in a 30??
This man said he “clocked me” doing 70 in a 35. I said, “Officer, that was not me, I...” and of course he cut me off. Then he said, “I saw 3 cars going down 95th St. One was going 70 and the other was going 50.” I just gave dude my license and insurance...
Now if you saw 3 cars, one going 70 and the other going 50, how do you know which one was me??? The answer is... YOU DON’T KNOW! Maybe I was the 3rd car you couldn’t name a speed limit for that was actually going the speed limit?
Now, to the officer’s credit (I just vomited while tweeting this lol), my car and the car that sped past me look similar-ish. I drive a CLA 250 (top row) and the car that was actually speeding was a C 300 (bottom row). Both cars were the same color and both have a 4MATIC badge.
Easy mistake to make at night if you see two cars pass by, and if both cars are the same color and same make. Especially if you’re not a car person. I am by no means a car guru by any stretch, but I could identify the car when it blurred past me lol.
The officer got back to me and said he was giving me the benefit of the doubt and and not give me a bigger ticket where I have to appear in traffic court, but I still got a damn ticket because he swears up and down I was going 50 mph in a 35. 120 ducking dollars...
While this was an upsetting situation to be in, I am very grateful that the situation didn’t escalate into something tragic. I know it’s probably a slim chance that I’ll win if I challenge the ticket in court, but I’m definitely going to try.
