Thread: An important Long Beach exposé became lost in the news maelstrom so I’m re-amplifying the item. After the 92 uprisings popularly known as the “LA Riots,” the Long Beach Police Department, which ranks among California's most violent, participated in a series of “reforms.”
Unsurprisingly, these reforms, which have failed as a result of police corruption, are identical to the policing reforms being suggested by 2020’s centrists and pacifiers. After the 92 uprisings, Long Beach instituted a civilian oversight commission to monitor police misconduct.
However, 99.9% of cases presented to the commission result in findings favorable to accused police officers. According to the commission, no evidence of police misconduct exists in Long Beach. What this means is that oversight doesn't exist. Long Beach’s commission is ornamental.
All such commissions are.
A member of the commission recently revealed that it’s a sham and members of city government, including city manager Tom Modica, continue to disrupt efforts to hold the police department accountable for systemic racism.
Recently, Long Beach's Office of Equity compiled a detailed report regarding abuse by police. Modica, at the request of the police department, deleted every instance of the word Black from the report. He then sent a cohort of WOC to defend him at a stakeholders’ meeting.
