I did it! But... there was an incident at the second polling place I went. Storytime thread ig cause I think it’s important
I am a registered Democrat and was anticipating a Democrat ballot to select from. When I began to fill out my ballot on my machine, however, every page was Republican
State, federal and local positions all under the party I didn’t want to vote for. I didn’t know what else to do so I raised my hand and called over the voting attendant and explained how I’m pretty sure I’m a registered Democrat.
The voting place was busy meaning every machine was operational. My name was taken down to check my registration and my machine was put out of commission for the time I was there
A voting attendant moved me to a new machine and put the correct ballot in for me. I filled it out, turned it in, got the cute sticker and now I’m in my car Tweeting.
It really wasn’t a big deal in terms of logistics and time, but it got me wondering if other voters had gone through the same experience.
Voting can be confusing and a huge time commitment for those with tight schedules. What if someone doesn’t speak up when they think something is wrong with the ballot they’ve been given?
Our standards for our democratic process should be air tight, and that should include calling out technical glitches that could throw off any voter at any age.
Anyway, my point of this thread is this: SPEAK UP if you think something is wrong at a polling place. Ask questions, double check your ballot, and most importantly share your experience with others once it’s done.
Voting can be exciting but there is no doubt that its accessibility is far from equal for everyone. It’s a right, not a privilege and we should hold its availability to the highest of standards for everyone.
