Economics is the study of production, consumption & allocation of goods & services within a society.

These can be accomplished in inherently oppressive, alienating & environmentally destructive ways (capitalism).

Or they can be accomplished in humanitarian & fulfilling ways 1/6 https://twitter.com/marwilliamson/status/1290643943122784256
The idea that ‘economics’ is synonymous with Capitalism or is somehow opposed to ‘humanitarian principles’ is wrong & presents the wrong framework for understanding economics & moving our economy in a better direction. 2/6
Yes, Capitalism is inherently oppressive, inequitable, undemocratic & environmentally destructive.

Each of these facts is easily proven in the various sub-threads here: 3/6 https://twitter.com/ArashKolahi/status/1260960535618543616
But much of what leftist economists study & theorize is: How do we accomplish the functions of economics (production, consumption & allocation of goods & services) in ways that are more inherently humanitarian, fulfilling, equitable & environmentally sustainable. 4/6
Rather than an economic system that incentivizes profit maximization, oppression & alienation, we want an economic system that incentivizes human-fulfillment, human-development & human-potential realization. 5/6
We can accomplish this by replacing Capitalism with an economy that inherently & systematically upholds our humanitarian values, as outlined in this thread. 6/6 https://twitter.com/ArashKolahi/status/1157358909054574592
