I don’t think I’ve been prouder of a week’s work in all my 20-odd years at this racket. In addition to my interview with Bernard Butler (see previous tweet), week 3 of @JPIMediaLtd’s The Show Must Go On campaign features the following:
Pieces about @BedfordEsquires, @roadmender, @craufurdarmsmk, @sneakypetesclub, @fulfordarmsyork and @The_AmericanBar, as well as a brief history of music venues ( @100clubLondon obviously featuring prominently) and a hefty endorsement of @thetradesclub;
A possibly self-indulgent but nevertheless heartfelt piece about the first gig I went to ( @suedeHQ in Derby);
A look at the impact of live music on the economy (spoiler: it’s big);
And plenty else besides, all adding up to 13 (!) pages. They may not all appear in your local @JPIMediaLtd title this week but a fair few should (and others may well head online at some point).
It’s only been possible thanks to two heroes of the scene: the @musicvenuetrust, who have been *immensely* helpful and about whom praise has deservedly poured in from artists and venues alike;
and @davidtjackson, who has done as much as any journalist to champion live music in Northants, Beds, MK and further afield (venues should name stages after him at least).
So that‘s week 3, focusing on live music. Still to come are weeks on amateur theatre, community arts centres and more. So glad we’re doing this and grateful once again for the support of my excellent colleagues. Thank you.
