Yesterday a Twitter account shared screenshots from the archives of a blog I wrote almost 10 years ago. I sent a note to Lambda Staff yesterday, but I want to acknowledge it publicly and apologize.
In the blog, I made racially insensitive comments about Asian people. At the time (2011), I was 21 years old, and to be totally honest, I was pretty stupid. The comments were not funny, accurate, or appropriate.
In all honesty, many of the things I said and wrote at that age I am not proud of and do not agree with today. Indeed I am ashamed of them. They do not reflect who I was then and they certainly don’t reflect the person I have become or the values that underlie the company I lead
Diversity in our culture and community at Lambda School is profoundly important to me. Ten percent of our student body identifies as Asian, as does 13 percent of our staff. I have nothing but respect for each of you, and I’m incredibly sorry for my hurtful comments.
In addition to the public commitment we’ve made to diversity, inclusion, and being an anti-racist organization, I know I must also hold myself personally accountable. Again, there’s no excuse. I take responsibility for it and will be better. https://lambdaschool.com/reports/2020-diversity-report
