There has been a problem recently with Twitter accounts popping up claiming to be young women starting in infosec. They ask for advice and social connections, but after investigation, their photos end up being stock art, and their names and bios don’t track back to real people. https://twitter.com/babblinggeek/status/1290689207866781698
Then, they either start harassing women, or aggressively trying to access private chats.

The unfortunate thing is that there are real women who need to be anonymous online, and this throws a wrench in everything. We think we know the (small number of) people responsible.
If you are building socks to do legit security testing, please don’t do *this*. It’s mucking up the community and our ability to help young people.

If you’re a real student, please understand we may vet you and be a bit cautious. I sincerely apologize.
This is also being tracked publicly by @thugcrowd, so this is all I want to say about this unfortunate, ugly drama today. https://twitter.com/thugcrowd/status/1290694299580080129?s=21 https://twitter.com/thugcrowd/status/1290694299580080129
