I DID SOME COUNTING

Out of 120 artists listed @edintfest 2020, 74 white men, 35 white women, 5 women of colour (although this is generous because they don& #39;t actually list them by name, just group) 5 men of colour and 1 non-binary person.

That& #39;s 62% white guys. No thanks. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✌️" title="Siegeshand" aria-label="Emoji: Siegeshand"> https://twitter.com/edintfest/status/1290243038640365569">https://twitter.com/edintfest...
Obviously googling names is an ineffective research method - but I& #39;d say it& #39;s a clear signifier that something is off-kilter within their equalities in programming.
I’d also note that it’s interesting that an artist of colour is being used as the primary marketing image. Totemistic? https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤔" title="Denkendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Denkendes Gesicht">
91.6% WHITE ARTISTS.

How.

Has.

That.

Happened?
One of these projects is by white creatives and another is by black women.

Which one do you think contains the full credits and artists names...?
A friend flagged I’d missed out some artists, after a brief recount 89% white artists according to the website is still: damning.

More insight needed definitely. How in light of BLM has this happened?
I’m genuinely upset that an organisation with such a tremendous platform chose in the 1 yr they didn’t need to rely on classical music or ballet ticket sales to NOT support emerging artists, or marginalised voices. It’s just abhorrent.

My rage cup runneth over this evening.
Surely the arts festival wouldn’t use an artists idea without crediting them....?
