the common narrative about the 1932 soviet famine was popularized by nazi emigres who never even experienced the famine (they were from western ukraine which was part of poland) but wanted to justify their war crimes. most famine survivors were in the red army! https://twitter.com/clmazin/status/1290431596290437120
like it’s incredible how most discussion about the famine isn’t even ABOUT the famine itself, it’s people projecting their own grievances onto the famine.
if anything it’s MASSIVELY insulting that people take war criminals blaming the jewish bolsheviks for a famine THEY DIDNT EVEN EXPERIENCE to justify their war crimes!
“actually, the communist famine was so bad that the nazis were actually better than the soviets and ukrainians all welcomed them and did emotional support genocide! i also know literally nothing about ukraine, let alone world war ii”
and it’s even more insulting to imply that jews didn’t experience the famine and if they did, they caused it in the first place and deserved the holocaust. like there were a lot of different factors and no one was having a good time in 1932-33.
also ukraine wasn't even the only region affected, it affected a lot of different regions and kazakhstan was disproportionately affected.
what really gets me is how people throw around holocaust comparions and say that the nazis were somehow kinder but ignore generalplan ost and the nazi occupation of ukraine and the USSR in general.
and that's because they're already at least sympathetic to the nazis in the first place and then actively ignore everything else about the nazi occupation like the holocaust, generalplan ost, the hunger plan, intentional starvation, and taking people as slave laborers.
and you know what? i STILL don't feel bad for collaborators who pretended they were the victims when the nazis didn't shower them in rewards. you ethnically cleansed your village, you're not a victim here!
and they'll use the "but we were so desperate for independence" in belarus, ukraine, russia, etc but these people were already committed fascists and ideal state was just the reichskomissariat with them in charge. they knew exactly what they were doing.
like i know i'm off topic but i've just read so much about nazi collaborators and all of their justifications but none of them regretted a thing, their only regret was having to face the consequences of their actions.
