Some thoughts on #CloudNative and humility...
An increasing trend over the past year or so has some people within the #cloudnative ecosystem, those that are lucky enough to get to use much new technology in their daily jobs, making comments like "developing in purgatory" if you are still on VMs or sneering at "on-premises"
Really don't do this. If you are lucky enough to use modern tools and systems all the time, be a little self aware. Many orgs are struggling with decades of poor tech decisions, compliance burdens, institutional scar tissue, outsourcing and poor management.
Would they like to be cloudnative? Invariably yes. But it is a long and difficult journey for most of them and in many cases just getting visibility into what is there and some basic automation is a huge step forward.
But when you dismiss the current reality for people within these orgs as being in purgatory it just comes across as dismissive. Have some empathy. Everyone wants an easier job, no one wants to be described as inferior for a situation that is generally beyond their control.
And keep in mind that this wave of tech is far from the first rodeo for many large enterprises. They have been sold the promise of simple solutions by many vendors in the past. People are naturally cautious.
