To this day, no other country has used a nuclear weapon. Japan was planning to surrender. It was an effort to ensure Japan surrended to the US and not the USSR. It was also to flex to the world that the US was the superpower now and to discourage the USSR from adversarial actions

When i say magnitude i mean a direct attack of this scale. No other country has used a nuclear weapon. It's a direct and targetted drop of a TWO nuclear weapons on CIVILIAN centers. The radioactive effects of which are still felt today.
