1) Unfortunately I have something to say about the 2+2 = 5 affair, or perhaps more about love of learning and love of knowledge and attitudes most conducive to these. Because I actually learned interesting things from people having good-faith discussions about 2+2 = 5. https://twitter.com/clairlemon/status/1290545385388118016">https://twitter.com/clairlemo...
2) I have some college-level stats from my political science major but never took a math course in college above calculus. And all that was a long time ago anyway. I& #39;m an English professor now. So I actually had stuff to learn about how mathematicians think about axioms and why.
3) Among the threads I learned from in this discussion was this one by Timothy Gowers. I looked him up. He won a Fields Medal! So, what, this Fields Medalist didn& #39;t pass 1st grade math? Or is too & #39;woke& #39; to be a the Royal Society Research Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge?
4) I also learned from this thread by @kareem_carr, who has multiple degrees in math and is doing a data science PhD. Are we seriously trying to say he doesn& #39;t understand basic math, that he& #39;s discussing 2+2 = 5 as part of some & #39;woke& #39; plot against math? https://twitter.com/kareem_carr/status/1289724475609501697">https://twitter.com/kareem_ca...
