One of the major challenges in our economy in a nutshell. Google borrows $10B at 0.45% interest while small businesses cannot borrow money to save their lives, and 60% of Americans work for a small business. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-alphabet-bonds/google-owner-alphabet-issues-record-10-billion-bond-at-lowest-ever-price-idUSKCN24Z2PC
This is not specifically about Google (I am a shareholder). It's about a system that is broken. Google has over $120 billion in cash on hand, and generated more than $30 billion in net income in 2019. It doesn't NEED the cash from the bond offering. It raised it because it can.
Meanwhile SMBs who desperately NEED cash cannot get it from banks. See this thread from a few days ago: https://twitter.com/HRGPFOREVER/status/1289554743128358914?s=20 We are gutting our economy while large companies can easily borrow cash at historically low rates.
And yes I am a capitalist and 100% believe in free markets. But we have to have a macro view and gameplan. We don't. The effects on our economy are going to be massive - and sad.
To be clear THIS 100% MAKES SENSE FOR GOOGLE. It just doesn't make sense for our economy.
