Good morning, from Morey Middle School in Capitol Hill, where Director @TayAndersonCO and activists are gathering to prevent a supposed forced removal of the urban campers today.
The crowd is growing and Iâm hearing itâs already larger than yesterday (when no sweep happened).
There will definitely be a growing resistance to one.

âYou wait, thereâs no TV cameras or anyone here when itâs quiet. No one showing you how peaceful this is. But when thereâs 150 police officers forcing people from their possessions, theyâll be here glorifying it.â @TayAndersonCO (paraphrased).
Of course, @DSAdenver is up early and here.
Still quiet down here. Lovely morning as the camp starts to stir. If youâre able to, please come stand in solidarity with our unhoused neighbors.

Trying to find an update on where this stands, but instead all the recent reporting seems to be only pearl-clutching about 664 tents... https://denverite.com/2020/07/01/denver-to-open-sanctioned-camp-for-people-experiencing-homelessness/">https://denverite.com/2020/07/0...
A handful of people join the crowd every minute or so.
This is cool.
Someone bring coffee, please.

The police have arrived. Sanitation trucks are circling the block and we were just visited by a crisis counselor / mental health professional.
This is feeling imminent.

Activists are starting to distribute supplies (including water, snacks, and trash bags) as Denver Fire starts knocking on tents.
âPeople are starting to feel agitated,â an organizer says to another.
âWhy?â
âWell, people are agitating them...â

Itâs pretty obvious that these officers are searching for excuses to sweep, not solutions to this crisis.
This is an irresponsible and deplorable response.

Iâm walking with a group distributing fresh fruit and snacks.
One gentleman, âIâm so happy to be refusing food. Itâs whatâs great down here, this community. Weâre not hungry.â

It is again quiet on Clarkson.
Still one officer keeping a watch, volunteers continue to help people pack and gather. The uncertainty is awful.
Quick reminder that none of these people are opposed to relocating, they just donât have anywhere to go. Giving them no notice to figure that out is cruel.
