Good morning, from Morey Middle School in Capitol Hill, where Director @TayAndersonCO and activists are gathering to prevent a supposed forced removal of the urban campers today.

The crowd is growing and I’m hearing it’s already larger than yesterday (when no sweep happened).

There will definitely be a growing resistance to one.

“You wait, there’s no TV cameras or anyone here when it’s quiet. No one showing you how peaceful this is. But when there’s 150 police officers forcing people from their possessions, they’ll be here glorifying it.” @TayAndersonCO (paraphrased).

Still quiet down here. Lovely morning as the camp starts to stir. If you’re able to, please come stand in solidarity with our unhoused neighbors.

The police have arrived. Sanitation trucks are circling the block and we were just visited by a crisis counselor / mental health professional.

This is feeling imminent.

Activists are starting to distribute supplies (including water, snacks, and trash bags) as Denver Fire starts knocking on tents.

“People are starting to feel agitated,” an organizer says to another.

“Why?”

“Well, people are agitating them...”

It’s pretty obvious that these officers are searching for excuses to sweep, not solutions to this crisis.

This is an irresponsible and deplorable response.

I’m walking with a group distributing fresh fruit and snacks.

One gentleman, “I’m so happy to be refusing food. It’s what’s great down here, this community. We’re not hungry.”

It is again quiet on Clarkson.

Still one officer keeping a watch, volunteers continue to help people pack and gather. The uncertainty is awful.

Quick reminder that none of these people are opposed to relocating, they just don’t have anywhere to go. Giving them no notice to figure that out is cruel.
