WHY THE LOOK WE THINK OF AS "BODY GOALS" IS NOT ACHIEVABLE - A THREAD
first off i want to say that i know that not only women/girls struggle with this. i& #39;m very well aware of that and in no way do i want to disregard the fact that men/boys feel insecure too. i am making this thread about girls because i am a girl and i simply can& #39;t speak for -
- guys in this situation, which is why i thought it would be better for me to make this thread about girls instead of trying to include guys and then just include false information or disregard their feelings :)
so... we all struggle with body image and the way we look. it& #39;s completely normal to be insecure about this and we all are. i struggle with this on a daily. we all see these absolutely gorgeous women on social media every day and ask ourselves why we can& #39;t look like them.
we look into our mirrors and see our faces, our bodies and are.. disgusted by them. we look at all our flaws. our cellulite, our pimples, our stretch marks. our tummy that& #39;s too big, our boobs and butt that are too small, our waist that& #39;s not tiny enough.
our chubby legs, arms, face. reality is, probably every single person on this planet struggles with insecurities, at least every now and then. so the first important point is: you are NOT alone!
i took these pictures yesterday night. i was watching a video about body image nowadays (i& #39;m gonna link the video at the end of the thread) and got the idea for making this thread. to have some first hand pics to prove the power that angles have, i took some pictures.
so, here& #39;s me when i pose. these pictures are not edited at all, but i& #39;m sucking my stomach in and posing in a way that makes my body look a lot "better"
and then here& #39;s me relaxed. these were taken at the same time, just a few seconds apart and in the same lighting. the only difference is that i am standing there relaxed and not posing. my butt looks a lot flatter, my stomach is poking out and my waist is not as small
now i also want to mention that i hadn& #39;t eaten anything for the past few hours before taking these photos because it was almost 3am and i was about to go to sleep. so my stomach was pretty much at its natural state and wasn& #39;t full of food. my stomach does get a lot -
- bigger when i eat and that& #39;s totally normal!
now these were all completely unedited and you can still see a major difference. now i want to show you the power of editing.
here I put the non edited version that you already saw next to the edited version and then the picture of me relaxed next to it. do you see the problem? i didn& #39;t even edit it heavily. the biggest difference is visible in the stomach area.
i just edited my stomach even smaller and my back a little more arched so the area looks even smaller. i made my boobs a little bigger, my right arm that& #39;s on my hip a little thinner and even gave my hair more volume. i also straightened my nose.
i left my butt the way it was, cause you would& #39;ve been able to see the photoshop since the radiator in the back would& #39;ve been squiggly. and for the relaxed pic: the shorts are also really flattering so my butt does look flatter in other pants.
i was very careful not to overdo it so you couldn& #39;t see the photoshop without the original as a reference (no squiggly lines in the background etc). and still there& #39;s such an immense difference between my edited picture and the way i actually look relaxed.
same thing again here. original posing photo - edited photo - me relaxed. here i made my waist a lot smaller, my hips a little wider, my right arm that& #39;s on my hip a little thinner and i even smoothed out the roots of my hair so you couldn& #39;t see that they& #39;re a little greasy.
same thing here with my face. unedited - edited - unedited - edited. in both edited pics i made my nose a lot thinner, smoothed out my skin, made my upper lip a little bigger, highlighted my eyes and even gave myself some make up with the app (blush and eyebrows).
this just shows that the people you see on instagram do not look like that irl. i know that the journey of self love is a hard and long one. and i& #39;m definitely still on that journey myself and i& #39;m not where i want to be yet. but it has gotten a lot better and i can accept -
- myself a lot more now. i hope this thread helps somebody, and if it& #39;s just one single person. please watch this video that inspired this thread! it explains the whole thing much better and shows you examples of celebrities as well and that these influences and celebs -
- also don& #39;t really have the bodys we think they do. here& #39;s the video: https://youtu.be/g0ZfsjGLL1Y ">https://youtu.be/g0ZfsjGLL...
also i wanted to quickly add that it& #39;s totally normal to want to present yourself in the best way possible on instagram or social media in general. i also post the pictures i like the most on ig and i pose and choose good lighting when taking photos. it& #39;s just about staying -
- true to yourself, especially irl, and not carrying that attitude of "having to be perfect" with you into real life.
so if you wanna wear that bikini, wear that bikini. if you wanna wear those shorts, wear those shorts. we all have stretch marks and cellulite, we don& #39;t have super flat stomachs and big bits and boobs at the same time. the only thing that counts is that YOU love yourself.
and it& #39;s taken me a while to realize that. you are not here to please anybody else you& #39;re here to please YOURSELF and only yourself.

i hope this helped some of you.
and no matter how you look, i love you.

i encourage you all that the next time you look into your mirror, you just look at the things you love about yourself. i& #39;ll also include a tweet that you can quote with things you love about yourself!
i love my eyes, my lashes, my hair, the structure of my face and my arms. and i& #39;m so thankful for all the things my body does for me.

quote this tweet with things you love about yourself and thank your body for everything it does for you! :)
