The same also applies to stocks.

A new high signals favorable conditions.

No oversupply.
No shareholders who need to sell at a loss or break even.

Remember there is always a reason for the demand.
This often translates into large, rapid gains.

And if you want to outperform the market, you need big gains.

I talk with investors constantly.

I assure you they are more scared when record-high stock prices occur. You want to buy when people are afraid.

Take note of your Twitter feed when this occurs.
You will notice the same.

Everyone thinks they can call the next crash. Pikers.

If you buy at an all-time low you are hoping (at best) for a turnaround situation.

That might be the right approach if you really understand a particular industry. Or if you have an edge.

But trust me, you probably don’t.

You might think you are smarter than everyone else.

But consider the flip-side:

When the stock market hits a new low, the gain over the next year is 0%. Weakness leads to more weakness.

You might not agree with it… but it’s true.

Now the true beauty of this lesson, is that it can be applied to all things in life.
