Dear Nigerian Nurse,
In the UK, the NHS salary for Nurses is banded according to the “Agenda for Change” scheme which was rolled out a few years ago. I woke up to hear some stufffs on my TL, ahaha read and follow this thread carefully, I’m about debunk some myths. Read and RT.
A Band 5 Nurse is salaried between £24,907-30,615. This is reviewed yearly with your line manager who will do a yearly appraisal with you and after its been signed off will inform HR where they will move you up the band, and this happens yearly, until you get to the top Band.
Now this salary is based on a working hour of 37.5 hour a week. If you work weekends and Nights, there is enhancement rates for that which usually bumps up your money by a couple of ££. Depends on how much unsociable hours you work within the month.
Now if you work within any London or Essex Borough, these areas are considered relatively expensive to live, hence why they different rates for them which is usually between £29,000-36,000 per annum. This is exclusively for NHS Trusts within the London/Essex area.
A Band 6 (Junior Sister) Salary is between £31,365-£37,890, again this is reviewed and increased yearly until you get to the top of that Band, and if you work within the London/Essex area it is slightly different and higher.
A band 7 (Senior Sister) starting salary is from £38,000-47,000 depends on the trust and level of experience!
Most Band 8’s (Matrons, Some Specialist Nurses, Consultant Nurses/Midwives) earn from £45,000 upwards, of which these can be negotiated and differs from place to place
Care homes, Private hospitals and Healthcare providers do not use the Agenda for change they have their own different standards for salaries, which is slightly higher than the NHS
Agencies! Agencies! Agencies!
Most Agencies will pay you between £17-22 an hour for a Day shift rate, whilst they will pay between £25-60 an hour for a Night shift rate depends on your specialty, your contract and where you are scheduled to work.
The agencies that pay £60 comes with a special clause and the clause is they could call you at 5pm to start a night shift at 8pm at 2.5hour drive away from where you live hence why they pay their staff more, It’s very very tricky to work like that.
Also note that Agencies provide both short term and long term covers and this is also salaried. So let’s say someone is going off for a Mat leave for 1year at a Trust, they might contact an Agency to find them someone who will cover that post post for just that year.
Agencies will negotiate your salary based on a Band if it’s a long term contract such as the one that I described above because they might need someone who has a Band 6 experience to cover the post hence will need to be paid as a Band 6 post.
However, agencies do not pay people on short term contracts based on bands, they pay based on the contracts they have with these different healthcare provider, even though you work for the same agency if you are sent to work across different providers, your pay may differ.
You could be working permanently for a trust, as a Band 7 nurse, but if you go work for an Agency by the side, they will probably pay you the same rate as their Band 5 nurse. They don’t care about Bands, they just need people to fill out posts temporarily.
Most Healthcare systems have their own Bank system, which means If you work extra shifts which are deemed as (Bank Shifts) you can get extra pay depending on your workplace policy for staff enhancements and and this also differs from place to place.
MH Nurses, LD Nurses and PD’s Nurse start out on the same Agenda for Change Band, however MH nurse and LD nurses earn more with Agencies than Adult Nurses because they are more specialised.
You are also more likely to move up the bands pretty quickly as a MH Nurse and a LD Nurse than as an Adult nurse, I can explain more on that during a webinar session.
Finally, ICU nurses, A&E Nurses, Per-operative nurses aren’t paid more than others if they have a permanent contract, If you work for an Agnecy in these capacities yes you are most likely to earn more depends on where, but within a permanent contract It’s the same pay.
Please if anyone finds a £100p/hr Job, ahahaha show me the way emi Gan wa oh E dakun! Ahahaha....
Lol. Y’all are jokers though who came up with that nonsense lol. Shey GP ni e ni lol most GP’s gaan earn just about that for most of their Bank work.
