I regularly use webex and zoom. audio is fine on MacOS with am external USB Rode mic. However in Microsoft teams a) audio level keeps going to 100% in macos settings b) monitoring audio is distorted. :-( Only EVER seen this issue with teams...

basically the solution is to create a virtual device in macOS with the mic level capped (for me it's 25-30% is well good enough for a good quality usb condensor at close proximity). Also audio out from rode needs to go down to. A bit of a slipup from microsoft here

ie my virtual HW device now as just a single physical device - the rode, with audio in at around 28%, out around 55%.... I still think all auto-level should be possible to switch off or at least time needs adjusting. it's still noticeably offputting from other participants
