"As planned" had better be a euphemism for "We are carefully planning and rethinking the logistics and conditions of the GPs in order to ensure the safety of skaters, coaching teams, judges and staff. Information will follow asap to give skaters time to adjust and prepare."
Anything other than a virtual event will put lives at risk. And organizing a live virtual event has many, many logistical implications that needs to be considered. Not every skater can book a rink to themselve at whatever time for one so good luck to small feds.
How will technical panels judge anything from far away angles? It's hard enough in normal conditions. Will I$U adapt their rules to take that into account?
I could go on. The point is, this kind of change is not a last minute decision. They should have prepared a contingency plan MONTHS AGO so everyone could prepare appropriately. Oh, right, they were focused on the awards instead.
As planned.
Give me a break.
