For the past year I've lived alone in London which has been a blessing (thank God) but also a test of my mental strength, resilience and discipline. Here are 5 things no one will tell you about living alone. A thread.
1. It's f***ing expensive. You have more way more bills than just a mortgage so it's important to budget. I use Martin Lewis' budget calculator: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/con ...
2. You learn how you like things to be done in the house. You set your own routine, not dictated by anyone. However this means there is no1 else to hold you accountable for not doing things which can be a slippery slope.
3. You have to set time aside to see your family, if not you can easily go weeks without seeing people you used to see everyday! For those of us who have a side hustle and a full time gig it's particularly important to add family time to the schedule.
4. Living alone can be lonely and you have to learn to enjoy your own company. It can be draining so find the way to recharge and feel back to normal. People have different tolerances for being alone so this could take a quite severe toll on your mental health.
5. You have to learn to love cooking or you will end up spending loads of money on takeaway or starve. đŸ˜”đŸ˜” Here are some insta pages I follow for recipes and ideas.
