91st birth anniversary of the multi-talented artist Kishore Kumar. Born in a Bengali family in Madhya Pradesh, Abhas Kumar Ganguly is a musical genius still revered today.

Here are 10 interesting facts from his life that celebrate his eccentricities and madness!
1. The legendary singer had a 'Beware Of Kishore’ board outside his Warden Road apartment.

Once filmmaker H.S. Rawail, who owed him some money, came to his house to pay the dues & when the former offered to shake his hand, Kishore bit his hand & said ‘Didn’t you see the sign!'
2. Once a producer paid him only half his remuneration in advance & said that the rest would be paid after the movie's shoot.

The next day Kumar came on the sets with half of his head & moustache shaved. When the producer questioned him, he said “Aadha paisa toh aadha make-up.”
3. It is well known that the famous song Paanch Rupaiya Barah Aana from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi was inspired by the debt Kishore Kumar owed to his college canteen in Indore.

The success of the film led Kishore to direct a film in 1974 with a rhyming title, Badhti Ka Naam Daadhi.
4. Kishore Kumar was a loner and used to talk with plants. People used to call him mad for this reason.

He even had named the plants in his garden. “Is phool ka naam chintoo hai, vo waali bel usko main rinkal bulata hun.”
5. The singer actually chewed several paans while recording ‘khaike paan banaras wala‘ for Amitabh Bachchan’s Don.

6. Hrishikesh Mukherjee wanted to cast Kishore & Mehmood as the leads in Anand.

When Mukherjee visited Kishore, the gatekeeper denied him the entry because he was instructed to not let any Bengali in as a Bengali show organizer had denied Kishore his payment for a stage show.
7. Once when Kishore was talking to Leena Chandavarkar on the phone, he felt the Bombay telephone guys were listening so he suddenly started barking like a dog.

The still grieving widowed Leena started laughing & her dad said 'God bless him for he made me hear your laugh again.'
8. The legendary singer never enjoyed media attention and had his own way to stay away from the limelight.

To shoo the media and unwanted visitors away, Kishore had put skulls and bones with red lights and sounds backing them up, in his living room.
9. Once, when a director dragged Kishore Kumar to court for not following his instructions on his sets, the singer decided to take him very seriously.

While shooting a car scene, Kishore Da kept driving till he reached Panvel because the director had forgotten to say ‘cut’!
10. On the sets of the 1956 film Bhai-Bhai, Kishore refused to act because director MV Raman owed him Rs 5000.

However, after his co-star & brother Ashok Kumar's persuasion, he agreed to shoot & as soon as the shooting started he said, "Paanch hazzar rupaiya" & did a somersault.
