Seeing Phase 4 decision framed as 'make or break'.

A special police unit in Bolivia is collecting dead bodies in the streets. They found 400 this week. People who died on paths, as overwhelmed hospitals had to play God on who to admit.

That's what 'break' looks like.
Whether we go to Phase 4 now or a few weeks later, we're firmly in the 'make' category.

Yet all the headlines are building this up into "Decision Day", somehow a disaster if Phase 4 is delayed.

I feel like people have no clue what this virus is doing around the world.
Dr. Glynn's job is not to keep publicans in business.

His job to keep publicans alive. All of us alive.

That'll inform his advice to Government, whose overarching duty of care is to also help people stay alive.

You can't pull a pint or make a living if you're dead, anyway.
Our infection levels in Ireland remain very low, despite the uptick. We're doing great.

What they found in 1918 pandemic is the ones who rushed through the reopenings, like St. Louis, despite low-but-rising numbers, suffered far worse than the more cautious reopenings.
That pandemic lasted the bones of 2 years. A century of advances in science mean we'll likely have a vaccine in record time, and this will likely be close to over by next Spring.

Sensible decisions are required, and we've the right people in Ronan and his team to guide them.
This virus is being turned into some sort of joke, with people desensitized to the scale of death it's causing.

We're likely well over 1 million excess deaths globally and Ireland are an outlier to an extent in how few younger people died, which is part-luck, part-credit to us.
That 'third world' countries see younger people dying might sound expected.

But I'm talking 'first world' countries.

6.3% of Irish deaths were under 65
19.1% of USA deaths were under 65

1.0% of Irish deaths under 45.
2.7% of USA deaths under 45.
36 children died in US, including 11 babies.

Thankfully no child has died in Ireland.

But, regardless of population size, if this virus gets everywhere, it will kill the most vulnerable in society - and that can range from the very old to very young.
We're doing well. Our infection levels are very low, hospitalizations and deaths are at a standstill.

I trust whatever they decide to do to keep it that way.

Just know it isn't the end of the world if it's delayed.

It will be the end of the world for many if we blunder this.
