UC Davis is charging $595 for an online orientation?!?!?!?!??? So imma make a thread of things I “learned” from orientation
Registering for courses: login to your MYUCDAVIS (<- google), and login with your Kerberos password (the long ass one you made when you SIR) should be something like this depending on what device you are using to login
Now you wanna go to the Academic tab and select registering for classes (pic 1). Then you will see something like pic 2, select Fall 2020 and you should be directed to pic 3. From there y’all want to pay attention to your pass time, that is when you can register for classes
Pass times vary based on when your college is suppose to hold orientation. Now this next part varies based on your major and yr ( 1st/ transfer). I highly recommend you look at your major requirements to see what are your foundation courses
I came into Davis as an undeclared major in the college of Biological Sciences aka BASC (office/ advisors are located in the science lab building) most of the prep material for the college is the same across the major the only difference is your depth material
E.x NPB major (bc this was my intended major at one point). To start google the major go the major page and scroll down till you see something like pic 2 and click detail major req. then you’ll see something like pic 3. First year BASC students typically take a mix between...
Math, Chem, or Bio with an elective (maybe you choose English (under div UWP or NAS 5 work)bc you need to do at least one lower div English course)/ first year seminar so y’all aren’t just doing STEM and burn yourself out. Also for my STEM majors your placement exams determine..
So for math you can get: Workload math: MAT 12; MAT16A (College of Argicultural and Env. Science); MAT17A (BASC); or MAT21A (Enginer); idk the honor one. Chem it’s WLD 41C or Chem 2A; or honor chem 2H
Then you choose your courses based on which ones you can take and best fit your schedule. Note that some lower division courses (any course that is lower than 100 // upper divs are courses above 100// grad courses are numbered in the 200s)
Also note that you are required to finish a certain number of courses in specific categories i.e STEM, social science, etc. this is know as your tropical breathe (link: https://ge.ucdavis.edu/requirements )">https://ge.ucdavis.edu/requireme...
So how do you find the courses you want to register for? First start by clicking add/ search (pic 1) then you should see pic 2. Use the subject bar to look up your class. When choosing your classes, it’s easier to view them side by side so click the view tab pic 3. Follow pic 4
Once you have all your courses picked out, wait for your pass time and then click register all. It’s important that you do this EXACTLY at your pass time to ensure you get your class
Orientation leaders usually recommend incoming students make 2-3 different schedules bc y’all pass times overlap and some of y’all won’t get your first pick. To do this simple click schedule then click create new and you’ll can create a backup schedule
IMPORTANT: You must register for at least 12 units ( roughly 3 courses each at 4 units) per quarter to qualify for financial aid AND graduate on time. You can always take more if you’d like please make sure you have at least 36 units done per quarter so Davis won’t hassle you
You can always check if you’re in good standing on MYAWARDS, which you can acces through MYUCD. Once there click on academic progress tab and it should look like the pic below if everything is all good. Contact your academic advisor if it doesn’t
important websites to know and save : https://oasis.ucdavis.edu"> https://oasis.ucdavis.edu this is how you can set up advisor appoints and access a whole bunch of important things like MyDegree which tells you your progress and which courses you’re missing. DM if you have question.
Important apps. UCD mobile - for the busses (current free for all bc of COVID) but all davis undergrad ride for free with your student ID. Davis - for the ARC (currently closed). Canvas - where your courses will post all material/ most. Student health -optional for SHIP
I’m not sure whatelse there is, so if anyone else would like to add anything feel free. I will add as I think of things. Also my dms are open if y’all need further assistance navigating through Davis, welcome aggies
