During YB @maszlee's tenure as education minister, every other day people were asking him about reforms, his plans for the future of education, making fun of his ideas, policies, keeping a close watch on everything he says, protesting in front of KPM, yelling at his face, yelling
..at him during face-to-face sessions, writing columns about how he needs to go etc etc. In fact, one particular person got my number and would text me about how YB Maszlee is ruining children's lives la and how he needs to step down.
I was quite happy cause I thought everyone's super invested in education and this means that everyone wants to see some sort of reform happening. It helped YB and his team to be accountable for their actions and they worked hard to pull together plans, ideas and strategies
but suddenly..everyone is so quiet. Where are all our activist eh? Where's everyone who wanted reform so badly? Didn't you know that a pandemic is a perfect time to reimagine our education system? This is a perfect time for us to do thing differently..
maybe suddenly education is not a priority after all. Even Stephen Ng who used to have so many articles about YB @maszlee is not saying much eh?
We should keep up with the call for reforms. Hoping for more discussions on how we can shape Malaysia's education system and I myself will try to host and organise these discussions, policy labs etc where we can keep the conversation going on the kind of education system we want.
This is what we need: 1)Training teachers on how to deal with trauma in students post MCO 2)checking on our dropout rate 3)continue building teacher capacity to use tech for teaching &learning 4)focused training on PBD 5)reducing curriculum content
6) strategies on how to do PAK21 with social distancing 7)using DELIMa to the best of its ability for teachers, students and school leaders!
