it looks like callouts... might actually not translate very well outside en twitter...?

like, callouts are actually a complex online social maneuver that requires common understanding and acceptance of quite a number of unwritten social rules to work

social rules that are... not completely universal

tldr the callout format can be perceived outside native-en online culture as open hostility first and foremost--like a messenger delivering a message by punching u in the face with it--and it has a very real effect on how the message gets received
