Fun fact, the Methodist church was instrumental to the abolitionist movement in the US and UK.

John Wesley was particularly vociferous in his outrage against slavery.

In fact, you could join the Methodist except you affirmed slavery was evil. This was in the 18th century...
...when the Methodist church was the largest church.

The Baptists too were anti slavery and they were the second largest church.

Contrary to what folks think, the US of the American revolution was not as religious as is thought.

This is why revivalists like George Whitfield...
Wesley brothers, John Edwards and Co were all crying to revivals and push the great awakenings.

I was shocked to learn historians say that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson weren't actually christians. They were deists/atheists probably.

I know right.

What people don't know...
...is that by the time of the American revolution, the latter part of the enlightenment, which was radical, was well underway.

This was the age of the Volataires. The Keplers, Bacon and Newtons were gone.

So being without faith was quite fashionable.

No be today.
So don't be tempted to think that the faith crisis of today is new.

In fact something that has always existed doesn't qualify to be called a crisis.

There has never been a time were people of faith were majority.

You may think western Europe of the medieval period but I'd...
..say (permit my cynicism) that Christianity was more of a cultural thing for many of them.

When church is fused with the state, that's what happens.

And it explains why there was so much corruption in the church elite, people buying bishoprics, extreme legalise and what not.
That's why to think that Christianity was responsible for Western slavery, ignoring that even the people taken as slaves were traded by their own peope, while being ignorant of the fact that the abolition was quintessencially Christian, is to be a bozo.

Slavery exists till today
And many of the western slave owners were not men of faith.

Atheist and Christian historians alike Will tell you this.

The fundamental premise of the Christian faith that all men are formed in God's image and God became man to die for all men is diametrically opposed to slavery
Just a little edification for you this early morning.

Have a great day.

Be sure to show all men the love of Christ.

He became came poor so that we through His poverty might become rich.

Be willing to sacrifice for the wellbeing of others today.

God bless!!
