I loved the story of The Hand, The Monkfish for #ItsOkayToNotBeOkayEP14. It’s easy to dismiss the story as the child being ungrateful but really, it talks of this odd belief that parents who take care of their children should expect some kind of reward at the end. https://twitter.com/seoyejiswhore/status/1290507478753513472
Children didn’t ask to be born, so while they should be grateful, it is the parents’ inherent duty to love and take care of their creations. That goes to say, if they only do it to expect some kind of return investment, they’re not raising children but creating an insurance plan.
The child’s arms and legs were cut off because she didn’t have the need for them when her mother did everything for her. But the child had a big mouth because that was the only thing she was allowed to use on her own. You know what else a big mouth symbolizes? Your voice.
The child never hesitated to tell her mother about her situation. She reasoned out and begged and cried but still, her mother threw her out on the sea. In the end, the sailors could still hear her cry. Her voice was her one sole possession and something that can never be taken.
Moon Yeong’s stories was her “voice”, it can never be stolen by her mother because it’s her own. She’s made a name for herself in the industry apart from being just the daughter of a missing author. But at the time, she still cried for her mom. Until the Moon brothers happened.
MY’s mom calls that book her child’s “only failure” but it’s her favorite. The failure she’s referring to is not just that it wasn’t a bestseller, it showed MY’s weakness as she cried for her mom. But no more, MY cut off her leash. Shit bout to go down for the last two episodes.
In conclusion: I am more sad than I expected that IOTNBO is ending. This show is an absolute gem and easily one of my all-time favorites that I will probably watch over and over again and still cry and heal every single time. Stan Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Ye Ji, and Oh Jung Se y’all.
