I've watched some videos about period costume inaccuracies in movies, lately, and they've been really informative

But also, like... not every movie is going for naturalism?
There's a lot of expectation that ever film is going for naturalism and realism. Whereas in theater, abstraction is accepted, and often necessary, due to what you can accomplish on a stage and with a budget.
I'd argue that the costumes in Little Women (2019) are meant to be EVOCATIVE of a time and place, not representative. It's feeling over verisimilitude.
And I think the people making these videos come from different places than the costume designers. They are historians or cosplayers coming from a place of trying to replicate history, so they value ACCURACY. Whereas wardrobe designers value FEELING and what a design COMMUNICATES.
