I tried to give this clickbaity article a chance and honestly couldn& #39;t get past it& #39;s stated premise -- that morally grey protagonists is a trend we& #39;re just suffering through.
The short answer is every story should do what& #39;s right for that story. Sometimes that& #39;s going to be a black and white morality, and sometimes it& #39;s going to be the fucking Wild Bunch. There& #39;s room for all of it.
My personal opinion is that the best art challenges either our established notions of the world, or ourselves, or both, and that art that doesn& #39;t even attempt to do that is more entertainment.
