The 90s was cultural Maximalism, David Foster Wallace and Eminem pushing the limits of the English language and so on, Michael Bay-style action movies reached their peak, tons of scope and imagination. The 2000s was all muted, minimalistic, small, dark because of 9/11. The 2010s
was a kind of malformed synthesis of the two—an attempt at big visionary culture, but without any of the soul of the 90s, because the total corporatization of the human spirit had advanced, and mumblecore in rap and movies, which is the opposite of expansive maximalism
And this is why I guess Zoomers don’t like 90s culture from what I’ve been told, it’s too maximalist and they are minimalist mumbling introverts
