ack I'm trying not to be on twitter but since I'm here anyways let me say something about Portland and protestors burning Bibles.
Between me and my husband we've been down multiple times in the past two weeks. We have seen nothing like this (and truly have seen nothing violent from the protestor side). In the past week though, there HAS been a guy in a truck down there passing out free Bibles.
So maybe it was just free kindling? Or people were annoyed with Bible passing out guy? I highly doubt people brought them downtown to burn on purpose BUT

if they did, shouldn't a Christian's first thought be "why?"
Why would the book I hold sacred be something that people fighting against state-sanctioned violence and racism and militarism would find offensive? That they would see the Bible as enmeshed with the violence of our government?
I am not holding out hope that my people could be curious about this. I am not holding out hope that it would cause a massive wake-up call for white evangelicals, that they would pour into the streets and join the protestors, wearing sackcloths and ashes of repentance.
(but what if it did?)
