I love the wannabes who know nothing about Khallid Muhammad but want to talk smack to me. So let me educate this dude @majtoure. When Khallid spoke at the Dallas Black Academy of Arts and Letters, there was a party afterwards. I was there. 1/12 https://twitter.com/majtoure/status/1290451540583624707
Members of the New Black Panther Party were there. Khallid and I had our back and forth on the phone, but my firing back at him earned his respect. I was inside and he was on the outside. He sent one of his guys to come and get me. I go outside. They were assembling for a 2/12
Photo. And Khallid asked me, "How can I get this photo to go national?" Now you gotta remember, he had been suspended as national spokesman of the NOI by @LouisFarrakhan. So he had no access to the Final Call. I found his question interesting. I told him that if the @AP 3/12
Got ahold of that image, they could put it on the wire and it may get picked up nationally. At the time, I was with the @startelegram. Later, I became the news director of KKDA-AM. Had I been with KKDA, I could have had it placed on the wire. 4/12
It was at that point I knew that Khallid Muhammad's days with the NOI were over. He was purposely trying to send the signal that he was aligning with the New Black Panther Party. I remember his multi-colored kente jacket. It was đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„. They took the picture on the porch 5/12
And we kept talking. What many folks don't even remember is that @LouisFarrakhan called a news conference at the Press Club in DC to announce the suspension. When Khallid came to speak in Fort Worth, I covered. In it, he said it was his intention not to do with Farrakhan 6/12
What Malcolm X did with Elijah Muhammad. When Khallid officially left the NOI, a lot disappeared. He no longer had access to the NOI's chapters. He had to earn his income on his own. Now since @MAJTOURE thinks he knows about guns, I was in Jasper, Texas for the KKK rally 7/12
And counter protest. Guess who showed up? Khallid Muhammad and the New Black Panther Party with their weapons. I still laugh at them jogging around this square & the police chasing them, scared of a confrontation with the KKK. I was at @KRLD and filed reports for @CBSRadio. 8/12
So this idea of Black groups with guns @MAJTOURE isn't new to me. Not was it new when Aaron Michaels of the New Black Panther Party worked at KKDA the same time I did. I get a kick out of all of these folks who want to comment on me and Khallid Muhammad who NEVER met him 9/12
I am cracking up at these fools who know NOTHING. Don't know what it feels like when someone like Khallid tries to intimidate you and you gotta let them know you will stand your ground. What resulted in that? RESPECT. So for all of you fools, I've been at this since 1991. 10/12
There are individuals who I have met and interviewed, from H. Rap Brown to Khallid Muhammad to @LouisFarrakhan to civil rights leaders and to politicians. I had to go hard at @HenryLouisGates when I was in college writing for the local paper. 11/12
Here is what these clueless fools don't get: folks will challenge you. To earn their respect, you gotta let em know that you aren't backing down and are no snowflake. So if Khallid didn't respect me, I would have never been at that private party. Were any of y'all there? 12/12
