after you leave your pet with veterinary staff after humane euthanasia, and if you’ve requested fur clippings, ink pawprints, etc, it’s the techs responsibility to collect those important mementos for you.
i’ve assisted with a few dozens of euths this summer, and i’ve gotten good at capturing your beloved pets paw print (i even do a nose print as an extra)
clean the paw, clip the fur between their toes, trim back the nails, press into ink well, press onto paper. repeat as needed.
ill re-do those prints as many times as i need to make sure i get the perfect print for you.
doing all this every day i work in the hospital adds up. and compartmentalizing the feelings is hard, but it’s an absolute necessity of the job. some euths are harder than others.
idk the point of this thread, but i just want anyone that reads this to understand the life of someone in the veterinary world isn’t just puppies and kittens.
if you know a vet, vet tech, vet assistant, etc... just let them know they’re doing a good job. let them know you’re there to listen, let them know you care.
