They got one thing right at the @GovSisolak press conference--this is, and always has been, a long term problem. But whenever politicians choose short term budget gains over long term health of their population, they get burned. Nevada, in particular, is sensitive to getting
This wrong. If Las Vegas and Reno/Tahoe become known as a symbols that spread COVID throughout the country, that will be bad long term. See this thread for what can go wrong with the y'all come on down approach: https://mobile.twitter.com/ASlavitt/status/1289756365506797568
As hard as this is for people to believe, there will be a future after COVID. People who blame Las Vegas for getting them sick (regardless of whether people are held liable or not) or blame Las Vegas and Reno/Tahoe for spreading COVID to their community will never come back
Or visit Las Vegas in the first place. If they are in charge of a convention, they will make sure Las Vegas isn't where it's held. As hard as it is to say this really sucks but we just have to power through it, it's the right thing to do for the future of Nevada.
It's what the gold miners in the 19th century, the people who built Hoover Dam in the 20th Century, and what @SenatorReid--who drove the mob out of Nevada--did. That perseverance has always defined us as a State and we would be well served to find it now. This too shall pass.
