in the recent Masterpiece Theatre version of Les Mis they made Javert black lol
just watching it for the first time, but I cannot believe I never saw any Discourse about this
it also starts with a caption that says "Napoleon is exiled" then immediately cuts to the battle of Waterloo. so far so good, guys.
afraid I will be misconstrued by people who are not les mis obsessives: fine and cool to cast black people in it generally, weird to cast the psychotic police man and no one else as black
oh this Javert also espouses criminal atavism. just very odd choices.
2.5 stars. didn& #39;t even cry once. (okay I teared up when Enjorlas and Grantaire died together but that is an absolute gimme and barely counts!!)
it& #39;s not an adequate Les Mis adaptation unless I am weeping through the entirety of the uprising scenes!!!
by the numbers, people love my les mis the musical content and absolutely loathe my les mis the novel and non-musical adaptations content. but I will never stop posting!!
