You would think that given that at least 40% of all COVID deaths are people in congregate settings, Congress would be doing as much as possible to make sure that people with disabilities & older adults could continue to live in their homes. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-nursing-homes.html #WhatWeNeed 1/6
You would think that the Senate would not want anyone to risk being admitted or sent to a congregate setting & be at even higher risk of getting & dying from COVID. You might think that Congress would do everything they could to reduce the # of ppl in congregate settings. 2/6
So far, NONE of the existing three COVID relief packages have included what we need to support additional home and community based services for disabled people. The HEROES Act, passed by the house almost 3 months ago includes HCBS, but the Senate has yet to take action. 4/6
Tomorrow, disability orgs across the are hosting a call-in day to make sure the Senate knows that HCBS must be included in the next COVID relief package & this HCBS must include community mental health services.
