Through context clues, here’s what it seems to come down to.
-Mets restructured Yo’s contract thinking he wouldn’t have a prayer at reaching them. DH and 60 game season changed everything.
-Reasonable to think this played a factor in playing through a pandemic with an ill mother
-Yo is benched twice in a week. Sure he’s not hitting, but neither is Alonso
You wanna get Dom some at-bats, Pete sure looks like he could use a day off more than Yo to me. But whateva!
-Yo, who saw the Mets get busted last year intentionally cutting Hechavarria before he could reach an incentive, reasonably asks around to make sure that’s not what’s happening. It probably is, he’s probably being lied to, he probably knows it
-In a matter of days, three teams are sidelined with COVID outbreaks. It becomes clear MLB’s plan to keep players safe has failed
-Combine this with being dicked around by your own team, why wouldn’t Yo opt out? He says goodbye to his teammates Saturday night
-Mets are informed by Yo’s agent Sunday pre-game he is opting out. Mets probably tried to contact Yo themselves with no luck, allowing them to justify their bullshit statement
-Mets know it will eventually come out they were fucking with his incentives. To get ahead of it, they try to spin it like the incentives are the only reason Yo is opting out (shocking from the same people who did it Beltran, Dickey, Harvey, Collins, etc on their way out, I know)
-They put out the statement playing dumb, completely tone deaf to the fact that an actress went messing and was found dead three weeks ago
(srsly, how different would this saga be if they had just included either “we are doing everything to ensure his health and safety” or “we can however confirm we have no reason to believe he’s in any danger.” But also, that’d expose the fact they knew exactly what happened, so.)
-Panic ensues on social media, they put out a second statement saying he’s not in danger. Before allegedly even knowing he opted out/where he was yet. So. Make that make sense
-Somehow, @richmacleod is informed Yo is opting out, but the Mets still don’t know. Ok
-Brodie makes his statement after the game saying he was JUST informed towards the end of the game Yo was opting out. His timeline makes no sense, his interview gives little answers
-Immediately following Brodie’s press conference, hit pieces are put out saying Yo was bailing over playing time and left in a petty way without warning, essentially as revenge
-Several players are reported to have known the night before Yo was opting out
-Brandon Nimmo literally confirms this is what happened

But, the boar, his strikeouts, that pic of him two weeks ago wearing a mask and not touching anyone in a mall, amirite?!?!?!
!!! Forgot to mention this. Hamilton wasnt signed to replace Ces as an outfielder, Marisnick is down, they already have Juan Lagares waiting. Dom is going to become all but the full-time DH, Hamilton gives them another option in the outfield when he does https://twitter.com/cshanbrom/status/1290395919008108546?s=21
