what a privilege to learn about racism from infographics! i learned about racism from being constantly belittled my whole life

i learned when a friends mom told me “I was pretty... but too dark!”

i learned when i didn’t have money to go out and someone said “guess who the black person in the friend group is!”

i learned from being taunted & bullied, from constant anxiety and fear, from the ways that countless teachers and peers could have stood up for me, and chose to be bystanders

so to all these people who just discovered anti-racism work: welcome to the fight!

but also, how can I NOT ask this: where were you before??? we needed you THEN, too.
