There's no "humane" way to kill an animal and if you think there is you're just fooling yourself. https://twitter.com/YeehawSineae/status/1290379574623305729
As I pointed out in that thread this whole thing where we "stun" cattle and pigs and whatnot is basically a lie we tell to make ourselves feel better. The stunning isn't a cartoon knock in the head that puts the animal to sleep. It's a metal bolt fired into its brain.
It is gruesome and deeply disturbing if you take any time at all to think about it. Which, as someone else there pointed out, is why it's such a chilling weapon for Anton Chigurh to use.
I'm not of the opinion that we shouldn't eat meat (meat is lovely, I'm a big fan) but we shouldn't be deluding ourselves into thinking there's a *nice* way to do it. Because there isn't. It's brutal and raw, red in tooth and claw and captive bolt gun and big chainsaw thing
Obviously we shouldn't *torture* animals either. We should do what we can to make it as quick and painless as possible, and try for a higher quality of life for the meat animals in every part of the process.
But when you get to the actual slaughtering part the difference between opening an artery and lobotomizing the cow is, at absolute best, trivial.
And here's the thing that made me decide to write this thread on it... I'm not sure we *should* care too much about that.

I mean fucking tigers don't give a shit and we definitely give the cow a better time than they would, when it comes to the actual slaughter. Which is I guess my point. A lot of this stuff is performative morality theater for our own benefit, not for the animal's.
And that to me is a lot sicker than how we actually kill them. There's a big difference between calling something a "necessary evil" and pretending like it isn't evil at all actually because *clown noises*
