Big news!! I’m very excited to announce that @laura4lano and I have signed a contract for our co-authored book project, “Cyborg,” to be released in the @mitpress Essential Knowledge series!
Together, we are drawing together the multiple conversations that make up cyborg theory today from the fields of STS, anthropology, and design research.
This book traces the histories and futures of cyborgs, arguing that they are essential for understanding debates in a range of issues. While cyborgs are well-known figures in popular culture, their significance as purveyors of new forms of knowledge has garnered less attention.
In the book, we advance the critical, radical, and political potential of the cyborg as a hybrid way of thinking, seeing and inhabiting the world. In the tradition of Donna Haraway, we recuperate the cyborg from its technodeterministic and militaristic history.
We argue that cyborgs have already achieved something that is desperately necessary in today’s world: a language for thinking through the complex relationship between humanity and technology.
This book will be on the short side, a great introduction for students; a refresher or summary for readers in STS, critical computing, design studies, and media studies; and a guide for practitioners in CS, design, and HCI looking for an intro to cyborgs + feminist technoscience
Really excited to continue working with @laura4lano over the coming months, diving into new literature that I've been collecting for the project in the winter and spring, and to ultimately share this work with the world!!
