Two of the last people I hugged before entering this interminable lockdown were @pennjillette and @MrTeller, when they invited me to visit @CWPennandTeller’s FOOL US back in early March. The episode airs tonight. (thread, I guess)
These gents have heard me gush countless times about how huge they’ve been in my life, so I won’t do it to them again. But like, for example:
I invited them to my high school graduation party. I sent the invite to an old address, and it got returned. Luckily, I kept the envelope, sealed, for 23 years. Gave it to them to open last year. And they still talk to me! That’s kindness! And patience!
Oh, and: They also watched and said the most kind and supportive things about the only movie in which I’ve had creative involvement. Not only that, they were instrumental in the inspiration for the story, and Penn especially encouraged me to get off my ass and get it made.
P&T are one of the acts I’ve seen on stage the most. I’ve seen their show... I don’t know how many times. A lot. Suffice it to say: I’m a big fan. So being asked to share the stage with them, even for a few minutes, was a genuine thrill.
If you watch the show, you’ll also see that they let me involve my best-friend-since-third-grade, whose parents took us to see P&T for the first time when we were 13 or so. It was amazing. I bought a hat, and Penn rubbed his bloody hand on the bill. I wore it til it fell apart.
Getting to have Matt up there with me (virtually) was another ridiculous charge. So thanks again, boys, especially for that.
That picture sorta wraps up the evening for me. I’m smiling so hard that my face looks insane. I don’t know how I’ll come off on the show. If I look like I’m stringing words together, I’ll consider it a win. Anyway, this is all to say: Boys, thanks again. ❤️
