Wish I could be downtown with @CTULocal1 demanding a safe reopening... instead I just led my first full day of remote learning for summer school entirely on my own bc my co-teachers WiFi broke. So here’s what CPS could be doing right now to make remote learning possible.
1. Make accessible explainers on how to log on to learning tools, like YouTube videos for how to log on to Clever or whatever. Teachers aren’t IT professionals.
2. making sure that families have free WiFi and computers or tablets for every family. We have so many kids that just don’t have internet access.
3. Figure out creative ways to engage students who have not been engaged online.
Oops I fell asleep with my phone open still creating this thread because online learning is actually still exhausting. But check @StuStrikeBack for their additions to it!
Here’s the thing. If CPS dedicated their time to making remote learning work. Utilizing all of their employees including subs in training families we could actually make progress this fall.
And you know what! I would take the difficulty of remote learning over the trauma of losing students and educators to COVID. I would teach the same second grader how to log onto Clever everyday over him getting sick.
