A lot of Black women gamers & content creators seek my advice on brand opportunities and whilst I'm working on something to make navigating this easier, here is some advice to help in the meantime:
1. Get some headshots done. You don't need to shell out big ££/$$ a lot of my photos that have been featured in press have been self shot. Make sure they're well lit, high quality, NO FILTERS.
2. Know your worth and add tax. As a Black Womxn creator you tick two boxes brands are looking to fill. Your fee should reflect that. Know what you bring to the table and don't do NOTHING for free. If we can pay our speakers, brands can for damn sure pay you.
Only settle for a fee you are comfortable with but with that said know what is a reasonable budget, ask around, speak to other creators.
3. Ask for the budget. Speaking about money can be awkward if you don't have representation, but regardless of that you should still ask. It sets a precedent and also is a great way to show yourself and others that you value your experience.
4. Research the market.
Know who else is out there, who you can take inspiration from, understand how things work. If you want something, try to understand the systems around it. Read articles.
5. Shoot your shot.
You never know until you try. It's something I'm saying to EVERYONE, it's something we all deal with but only those who override it move forward.
6. Identify a tribe but don't get cliquey.

I know this is a big one, find your tribe, work together, share, progress - but don't get catty. Low energy actions attract drama and tbh if you're building, you shouldn't have too much time for all of that.
7. Build relationships and approach with ideas
Know why you're contacting a person, is it for a relationship or for a specific project? Brands are made of people, who can you get on with well, who can you build a relationship with?
8. A big one. DON'T GIVE YOUR IDEAS FOR FREE.
Cultural capital is something that is super valuable. Brands should hire consultants or be working on projects with you for the ideas some of you leave to the wind on the TL.
Create copywritten pitch decks or NDAs and send via email.
I should say ideas in mind* like I said, don't just give them out willy nilly.
