I also desperately need all of the powerful white people (organizational leaders, sci-commers, PIs, etc.; YES that includes white women) in and out of this sphere to do a lot of internal interrogation about where your values lie and what your own behavior says about you. 1/7
Because if you continue to act like a performative ally in public, but make it clear that in your own personal interactions you are bigoted, unfair, retaliatory, and unwilling to grow, well... your time is coming. And I& #39;m not sorry to say that. You need to hear it. 2/7
Claiming that you can& #39;t be bigoted or harmful because you& #39;re an "ally", because you& #39;re "liberal", because you truly believe you are a "good person" and better than... some other group of "worse" people- all that says is & #39;GREAT I did the bare minimum & STILL missed the point& #39;. 3/7
If you are someone with a lot of power who is afraid of the "twitter mob" coming for you next, well... you could maybe circumvent that by trying to be better BEFORE you get called out? Work. on. your. damn. self. Most people can tell when people are TRYING. 4/7
But a lot of you are only interested in maintaining the existing power structures that gave you all that power in the first place while being a performative ally to gain support. Your egos are much larger than your willingness to learn. 5/7
