I take personal offence to that "it just doesn& #39;t fit their agenda" comment and here& #39;s a thread no one asked for on why! : https://twitter.com/AK3YN/status/1289967889097793537">https://twitter.com/AK3YN/sta...
I am. A student studying to get into a world of media. I can tell you with complete confidence, that& #39;s not why we won& #39;t cover it

If it& #39;s a media outlet that would be relevant for this type of content, yes they might cover it
+
But do they have a reason for covering it? Realistically as it is, no. It has to be newsworthy in order for it to be reported. We have specific guidelines to follow regarding what content we publish and a video like this with not much going on is not grounds for publishing +
Sure it& #39;s cool and it shows people following the rules, but that& #39;s exactly why we don& #39;t publish this shit, because it& #39;s normal. No one publishes stories about law abiding citizens because it& #39;s not interesting, it& #39;s not newsworthy, no one wants to read that kind of normal stuff. +
What would you even write about it? What questions would you ask if you interviewed someone there? What is so mind blowing about people following the fucking rules? What news values are there to such a video? Is there any specific reasons we should pay our overworked overtired +
writers to publish this content and show it to the world, like hey look people following the rules that& #39;s what you came to this media outlet for right

+
God I& #39;m so so angry at people who have not a fuckin clue of journalism preaching that "mEdIA wOn& #39;T sHOw YoU THIS sIdE oF THE sToRY"

We have guidelines god fucking dammit

+
First of all, is the source credible? Is it newsworthy, is it good content to publish? Usually a lot of stories fall out through this filter because they& #39;re simply not newsworthy enough to publish, like that video of people following social distancing rules.
+
Secondly, does it fit our usual content? A fashion magazine won& #39;t publish religious content or tech content or lifestyle content. They have a certain type of standard, a specific style to their name.
+
Third of all, WHY should we publish this? Do we have a reason to? Is it to shed light on certain topics, is it to tell the public about a newsworthy or trendy topic, it is for the consumers to understand a topic better? What is your purpose in publishing this story?

+
Fourthly (and the last point I can think of in my rage), does this violate any media ethics? What consequences would there be if I publish this story? Will this hurt anyone if I publish this? Is there something I should double check before publishing this article? +
We don& #39;t want to accidentally break out ethics codes, it& #39;s a huge deal and you can get suspended.

If the content goes through all four filters,
THEN we can publish it. +
I am NOT, absolutely fucking NOT defending media outlets for not publishing articles on IMPORTANT topics that DESERVE recognition, I& #39;m just saying that we have guidelines and standards and styles to follow through, we can& #39;t publish every little interesting tidbit or else +
the media content would be way too saturated with non-newsworthy topics that could& #39;ve been space for more newsworthy topics that needed to be published. We have reasons, sometimes not all of it is good, but please understand god fucking dammit.
Last point, this is thread is ONLY referring to the fact that people say "the media won& #39;t show you this" a lot. I know hajj is important and should be covered for its significance, but this thread explains

1) why it& #39;s not a headliner

2) why some things don& #39;t get covered
